What data we process

You do not need to give any data to take the practice test or download the PDF. In the mock test, your answers are marked in your own browser and are not sent anywhere. The Writing and Speaking practice works differently, as explained below under “Review by a teacher”.

If you leave your email, we keep it to let you know about new practice and news from Linguaskill Academy. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box and can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in each email or by writing to hello@linguaskillacademy.com. We keep it for as long as you stay subscribed.

As with any website, the hosting server records technical data about the visit, such as your IP address and browser, to serve the page and protect it from abuse. The fonts are loaded from Fontshare, which receives your IP address when serving them.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or pass on data. It is only processed by the technical providers that make the website work (hosting and the email service), under a data processing agreement. Some may be outside the European Union, and in that case the transfer is made with the safeguards of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Review by a teacher

Your Writing and Speaking is reviewed by a teacher. To prepare that review, when you press Corregir (Check), the task prompt, the text you wrote or the transcript of what you said, and the language of the page are sent to transcription and text-processing providers (AssemblyAI and Anthropic PBC), who help the teacher prepare the feedback. We do not ask for or keep your name or email for this, and we do not store that text in any database. Write only what you want checked and avoid including personal data about yourself or other people.

The legal basis is your consent, which you give by pressing Check (article 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you do not press it, the text never leaves your browser. These providers, based in the United States, process it as data processors on our behalf. The feedback is a guide only: it is not an official Cambridge score.

Speech recognition and recording in Speaking

To turn what you say into text, your browser uses its own speech recognition (Web Speech API), and only if you allow it to use the microphone. In Chrome and Edge, that service sends the audio to Google’s or Microsoft’s servers, which process it under their own privacy policies; we do not receive that audio. If you do not want your voice to go through them, do not use the microphone in this practice.

The recording stays in your browser so you can listen to yourself and is not uploaded to our servers.

Help assistant

The help bubble answers automatically using the information on this website. What you type in it is sent to Anthropic PBC (United States), which generates the answer as a processor on our behalf. To improve the service we keep the questions and answers without your personal data (no IP address, name or email; if you type an email or a phone number, it is masked before saving), together with the language, the country and the page you ask from, and we delete them automatically after 90 days. To prevent abuse we keep, for 2 days, an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address (not the IP itself) and the time of each question. Do not type personal data into the assistant.

If you use “Write to the team”, your name (optional), your email, your message and your last questions to the assistant reach us by email so we can reply. If you are logged in, the message is also saved in your support history. The legal basis is your consent when you send it (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in protecting the service (Article 6(1)(f)). The transfer to the United States relies on the same safeguards explained in the next section.

International data transfer

The transcription and text-processing providers are based in the United States, outside the European Economic Area. The transfer of the text sent for feedback relies on appropriate safeguards under the GDPR: European Commission adequacy decisions and the standard contractual clauses approved by the Commission (article 46 GDPR). Visit statistics

We measure visits to the website without cookies and without storing your IP address: for each visit we store the page, the language, the country, the type of device and where you came from, without identifying you. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also does its own measurement. Details are in the cookie policy.

Your rights

You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability of your data by writing to hello@linguaskillacademy.com. If you think we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), at aepd.es.
