Linguaskill Listening practice: part by part and a 40-minute test
108 Linguaskill Listening questions spread over the 2 parts of the exam, from B1 to C2, with the audio playing as many times as the material says and the script to read when you finish. There is also a 40-minute practice test.

Practise Listening
Each part is practised on an exam screen, like the real one: one question per screen, with a clock, and nothing marked until the end of the part. You do not choose a level: the questions go from lowest to highest, B1 to C2, because the real exam adapts to you.
Part 1. Listen and select
A short recording and one question: you choose the answer that matches what you hear.
- 6 questions
- ≈ 12 min
Part 2. Extended listening
Long recordings with several questions: conversations, notes to complete and several people speaking.
- 23 questions
- ≈ 28 min
40-minute practice test
The whole module in one go, like the exam: 29 questions from B1 to C2, with a clock and nothing marked until the end.
What Listening practice is like
- You choose a part, not a recording. The two parts come in exam order: short recordings with one question and long recordings with several.
- It works like the exam. One screen per recording, with the clock running and the Previous and Next buttons. Nothing is marked until the end of the part.
- The audio plays 2 times at most. The player has play and pause but does not let you skip ahead or go back. Pausing does not use up a listen.
- You do not choose the level. The recordings in each part go from lowest to highest level, B1 to C2, as if the exam were adapting to you. If you repeat a part, different ones come up.
- The script appears after you answer, never before, next to the sentence in the audio where each answer is. If a recording has no audio file, it does not go into the part.
The parts of Listening
Linguaskill General Listening is practised in these parts, with the names Cambridge gives them. In the real exam, as in Reading, the computer adapts the questions to you.
- Listen and select. A short recording and one question: you choose the answer that matches what you hear.
- Extended listening. Long recordings with several questions: conversations, notes to complete and several people speaking.
The 40-minute Listening practice test
It brings together 29 questions from B1 to C2 in 40 minutes. The timer runs while you listen and answer, and the test is handed in automatically if it reaches zero.
It is not an official score. Cambridge does not publish how many recordings or questions the module has, or how many times each one plays; the number of listens is our own estimate. Here a level counts as held when you get 60% or more of its questions right.
Frequently asked questions about Listening practice
- Why can I not skip ahead in the audio? So that you get used to listening and deciding, not rewinding. The number of listens is set by the material and is our own estimate, not a Cambridge figure.
- Are the accents real? The speakers mix British and American accents, and the voices are synthetic.
- Can I do it without headphones? Yes, but with headphones you hear unstressed words better, and those are the ones that cause the most trouble.
