How to read your Linguaskill certificate and share it online

Your Linguaskill certificate shows a score and CEFR level for each module you took. This guide explains each line, what ‘Not taken’ and ‘Not reported’ mean and how an organisation checks it online.

Quick answer

The Linguaskill certificate gives a score and a CEFR level for each module you took, plus an average. There is no pass mark. A module below B1 is marked ‘Not reported’ and one you did not sit is marked ‘Not taken’. To see a score like this before the real test, run a free full practice test.

This guide is about reading the certificate line by line and sharing it. When results come out and what each score band means are on our page about Linguaskill results and score levels.

What does the Linguaskill certificate show?

Cambridge says the certificate gives in-depth reporting on the modules you took. Each scored module has a number on the Cambridge English Scale with its CEFR level. The certificate also gives an average of the modules that reached B1 or higher.

Every module line takes one of three forms. A number with a level means the module was scored. ‘Not taken’ means you did not sit that module. ‘Not reported’ means your score fell below the B1 reporting range.

The back of the certificate carries ‘can do’ statements that describe what a person can do in English at each level. Swiss Exams, a Cambridge exam centre, reports that a new certificate design arrived on 9 February 2026 with a clearer explanation of the average and clearer marking of modules not completed.

How do you read a Linguaskill score?

The level is the CEFR band the score falls in. Read each module first and the average second.

CEFR level Score
B1 140 to 159
B2 160 to 179
C1 180 to 199
C2 200 to 210

There is no pass or fail. The score says what level you showed on the day. The organisation that asked for it decides whether that level is enough (see whether Linguaskill is accepted). Check the level it requires for each module before you compare. An average of B2 can hide a Speaking result below what a course asks for.

A scale that starts at 82 or ends at ‘180 or above’ describes the earlier version of the test. The published bands now run from B1 to C2.

How do you share a Linguaskill certificate online?

Results are shared through Metrica, the Cambridge English test portal. Cambridge says candidates log in to Metrica and choose to share their results with the organisation’s account on the Results Verification Service.

  1. Log in to Metrica with the username and centre code you used for the test.
  2. Find the organisation that asked for your result, using the account details it gave you.
  3. Share the result with that organisation’s account.
  4. Tell the organisation it can now verify the result on the Results Verification Service.

An organisation can only verify a result if the candidate shares it with its account. If a university or employer cannot find yours, the missing share is the first thing to check.

Can you improve one module without retaking all four?

Yes, with My best score. You retake one module instead of the whole exam. Cambridge says the retake must use the same candidate login at the same test centre as the original. The certificate then records your best score for each module.

How can you see a result like this before the test?

The real certificate only comes after the exam. Our practice test gives you an approximate score and level for each module on the same 140 to 210 scale, with an average. A module that does not reach B1 is left out of the average, as on the certificate. It is our own estimate from Cambridge’s published bands, a guide and not a promise of your real result.

The real certificate

  • Comes after you have sat and paid for the test
  • Shows each module taken and the average
  • Marks a module below B1 as ‘Not reported’

Our Writing practice also gives a score for each criterion, so you can see why a result sits where it does. You can start with the Writing practice with email and essay tasks and then try the full test. How we built the scoring is on our About us page.

Is a Linguaskill result a pass or a fail?

Neither. Cambridge reports a score and a CEFR level for each module. There is no pass mark.

When do Linguaskill test results arrive?

Cambridge says from three working days after the test. The exact wait depends on the session size and on whether you sat it at a centre or remotely.

Can a university check my Linguaskill certificate?

Yes, once you share it. Organisations verify results on the Cambridge Results Verification Service after the candidate shares them with their account.

Does a Linguaskill certificate expire?

Cambridge sets no expiry date. The organisation that asks for it decides how recent the test must be.
